I now have these leather bench strops available.  These feature a full 1" thick oak base for mass and slip resistant rubber bottom for being able to use both hands on the knife to better control sharpening angle.  The leather is very thin to reduce edge deflection when pulling blade across the strop.  I also put finger grooves along the sides.  I can charge/load these with the same compound I use if desired.
